PAINTING TIPS

  1. JUST HAVE FUN

  2. DON'T STRESS OVER THE LITTLE THINGS

  3. BE CREATIVE IN YOUR OWN WAY!

Traditional canvas painting tips.

When mixing, always add a little water and start by using a little bit of paint until you're happy with the shade. You can always make more,  but we only have so much of each color.

NO THICK PAINT!

If you want a color to be bolder please do several thin coats. Thick paint will not dry and will make the next steps harder and increase the chance of mistakes.

Use your napkin or apron to wipe paint off your brushes before putting them in your water cup to keep your paint water cleaner.

MORE PAINTING TIPS:

CUSTOMIZE YOUR ARTWORK:

Transform your artwork into a unique masterpiece by changing the background color to suit your mood or by choosing to paint other imagery and objects. You have the freedom to express yourself by adding personalized text or words that convey a meaningful message. Make your painting truly your own and let it reflect your individuality.

PAINTING SAFETY

Never apply paint to the surface of glassware that will come in contact with food or drinks.

DO NOT PAINT the inside of a drinking glass, the top of a plate, or the inside of a bowl.

Do NOT paint the whole glass up to the rim. Although the paint is non-toxic, it should never come in contact with food.

IMPORTANT INFO (Please Read Before Painting)

You want to avoid painting near the rim of the glass as that is where your mouth will touch. Leave 1 inch at the top for your mouth!

Even if you want the image you are painting to be seen from inside the glass when finished, you must first paint the area in reverse on the OUTSIDE OF THE GLASS, (ex: last step or image first or front element first then background)

GLASS & POTTERY PAINTING TIPS

Just like painting traditionally on canvas which is a textile. Painting on your fabric accessories is just as simple with a few differences. (Learn more in the "IMPORTANT INFO!!!" tab above)

Your instructor will help you design the accessory you like just tell them what you have in mind or use our example artwork above as inspiration.

SEE INSPIRATION!

You can hop straight into painting or use tools like the ones listed below to create.

  • Chalk to sketch or write on your accessory first and then paint.

  • Tape to create straight lines and edges. great for abstract vibes and bright bold colors.

  • Rubber bands to create a tie-dye-looking bag using a water-down technique as well.

  • Add a special touch with iron on foil and letters.

  • Or just apply paint however you like, by brush, by finger or hand, and even splatter.

JUST HAVE FUN DESIGNING YOUR OWN ACCESSORIES

ACCESSORY PAINTING TIPS

MORE FUN THAN PLAY DOUGH!

Clay is all the fun of play dough without the disappointing short life span. Finished & fired clay pieces are extremely durable and could last a lifetime with the right care.

You can mix different colors of clay together just like paint to create new colors. When mixing new colors start off with a pea size portion to make sure you are getting the desired color. So as not to waste clay.

To create a marbled effect please combine the colors you would like to marble and lightly roll into a ball. Over mixing will result in all your  clay turning into one combined color and not a marble.

CLAY TOOLS

Feel free to use your hands and fingers to make new forms.

Clay tools can be anything: Fork, toothpick, or yoru finger. Tools should be plastic, wooden, or metal as they do not stick to clay.

You can even make patterns using other fun items to make impressions in your clay like a stamp. Please make sure to thoroughly clean any item used for impression as dried clay can adhere to other objects.
